Decide To Buy Asus T101MT EU17 Only After Reading This

August 30th, 2010

Eee PC T101MT EU17 Demo

The first time you unpackaged the content of the box, you will be quite impressed with the look of this Asus T101MT EU17 tablet netbook. Its chassis is very sexy, not to call it exaggerate so let me describe it. Matte material is used for the casing, palm rest and keyboard to reduce significantly fingerprint marks. Alike other ASUS netbooks, the screen bezel has glossy material finish.

The netbook is very solid and lightweight. Keyboard with the island chiclet keys are tremendously pleasant to type on. There are space in between the keys and once you get used to it, you will like its spacing, because it help prevents typo on this limited space.

The special feature that makes this netbook looks distinctive and called tablet is its touchscreen. It’s very useful which enable us to navigate through windows with your index finger. In order to get the feel in using index finger for navigating through the touchscreen, you will need some practice.

The Eee T101MT EU17 netbook, gives users the best of both resistive and capacitive touchscreen technology, as it allow users to switch from Pen mode(resistive) to Finger mode(capacitive). Pen mode uses one touch point which allows users to use a stylus pen or any sharp-pointed object (like a fingernail’s tip) to write on and control the smallest details on the screen. While the Finger mode uses two touch points and allows users to do multi-touch, pinching, expanding, two finger scroll gestures.

To be fair, do not imagine this device perfect. As it is a netbook of course there will be shortcomings compare to typically more powerful laptop. But they are things that can be simply resolved. These can be eliminated just by doing a little upgrading. The difference is whether you need to spend some extra money getting the unit up to spec versus paying more initially for the same specs. Asus apparently decides to release cheaper version and let customers do the required upgrade as needed.

To unlock the full potential of this netbook, you must do a couple of upgrades. First, is to upgrade the RAM to 2 GB. This really helps with the system’s responsiveness (including inking) and multitasking capability. Second, is to upgrade the OS to Windows 7 Home Premium and up as it will unlock the multi-touch capabilities of the touchscreen. It would cost you another $80, but worth every bit of it.

Then again, after completing the upgrade, this netbook remains unsurpassed by its competitor in this price range of tablet PC. It offers a balance of usability, affordability, and portability that the other devices cannot beat. Unlike the iPad, the T101MT EU17 is built for more than just content consumption. You can still be very productive using this device.
