HTC Android Update So Far
The HTC Desire is a fantastic phone and no doubt a major competitor if not better than the iPhone 4 in some ways if you were to read the HTC Desire reviews? What they say is that the HTC is fantastic at surfing the net, as a business tool and as a stable platform but i can tell you now it is anything but quietly brilliant.
The HTC desire is obviously nothing without the software on which it runs and the latest Android update to 2.2 (Froyo) has brought a great number of improvements over the previous version. The most notable for me is the ability to merge numerous calendars together. This used to be a real pain with my HTC but now I have three Google Calendar Accounts all showing in one place so it makes it really easy for me to share what I want with people yet I can see everything in one place and immediately at the swoosh of a finger across the screen. The other big thing I have noticed is that I do not have to input the security drag thingy as much as I used too. If I press the top button it send the phone to sleep still (basically makes the screen go black) conserving the battery etc but if I then re press the button all I have to do is move my finger down on thee phone and it opens fully up again without having to follow the security pattern. Annoyingly the phone was always going to a blank screen either by me pressing the button whilst fumbling around or by the time running down to the limit i had set i would then have to re input the security before i could continue what i was doing.. The downside is that my phone does potentially stay open without security when before the update I knew it was locked.
My biggest problem though with the HTC is there choice of tag line or marketing slogan, “Quietly Brilliant”. Yes the phone isn’t flash or brash like the iPhone and many competitors but god is it loud and the most obvious time it is extremely loud and annoying is when it is first booting up. You see the pretty HTC Mobile phone logo appear on the screen and then Quietly Brilliant and at the same time your ears begin to bleed as a god awful screeching tune is played at maximum volume. Please HTC you are obviously brilliant but act as you preach and do it quietly in the future!
