Nikon D90 Reviewed

January 4th, 2009

Nikon has succeeded again and appears to be a leader in the DSLR field. This spectacular new camera, which replaces the outdated D80, is all you need to take the best photos in the world. This camera has many of the same features as the D300 (and even some improvements), but is lighter.

With its much lower price tag, Nikon’s smartest DSLR can give the D3 and D300 a run for their money. Of course there is always a lot of fluff added to a new prosumer camera in order to catch the eye of those who are not in the know, but there is also a lot of very useful groundbreaking improvements in the Nikon D90 that just are not offered in the D80, or D300 for that matter.

If you are looking for a camera in the range of one thousand dollars, you can’t go wrong with this one. With it you will get much of what establishes the $5,000 D3 as extraordinary, and at a portion of the cost. You will notice the bright and beautiful 3-inch LCD right away. The colors are vivid and accurate.

Another terrific feature is that it doesn’t drain the EN-EL3e battery too rapidly. Move over D3! This camera is rated at 850 shots with a mix of flash. The photo quality of DX beats out D3, D300 and D700. In regular shooting amidst decent light, you will not notice a difference. If you are one of those individuals who are perfectionists and increase a photo to 300% to fix all of the imperfections, this is a great option for you. The D300 will improve slightly in low light higher ISO, and the D3 will improve signifigantly more. It is not worth $4000 or more.

The Nikon D90 also includes a live view feature. A photo enthusiast probably will not have much use for this. The greatest utility can be experienced when the camera passed on to friends and family resulting in unexpectedly beautiful shots. We have point and shoots to thank for become dependant on LCDs to take photos. If you already own a DSLR you will no doubt notice that folks are intimidated to even hold a DSLR let alone shoot one. It takes the intimidating, and makes it far more than comfortable for someone who is used to holding out his or her camera at arms length. This is where live view helps out tremendously. Additionally, the lighter weight and plastic body make the D90 a more accessible product.
