Apple Mac Vs PC: What’s Better About Macs?
You definitely have heard the two abbreviations: PC (for Personal Computer System) and Mac (for Macintosh), as both versions are different types of home computer system which have been around since the 1980s. The Desktop computer was introduced by Xerox and made popular by Bill Gates when he developed Windows, whilst the Macintosh was introduced by Apple company. For that matter, it was the Apple computer that first had the personal computer with graphic symbols – it came to Microsoft Windows much later.
Comparing both categories of machine is a bit like comparing and contrasting two completely different properties: even though they are both made from the same building blocks and enable you to carry out the same tasks ( such as sleep in a bedroom; prepare dinner in a kitchen) each one has distinctive style and, because of this, cost.
Desktops
Desktops and notebooks are manufactured from standard parts, made by a wide range of companies. For this reason you’ll see lots of different brands around: Compaq, Hewlett Packard, ASUS, Dell, and so on.
There are lots of brands for internal PC equipment as well, therefore it is easy to find low-priced replacement components if anything breaks or perhaps you wish to upgrade, or improve, a specific feature.
The main operating-system – the piece of master software program that runs the computer — for Desktops and laptops is Microsoft Windows, created by Microsoft. You may see several versions of Windows depending on what PC you’re using, e.g. Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP.
Some Computers run Linux system as an alternative for Microsoft windows. Eventhough Linux system is becoming more common, it’s not as well established as Microsoft windows, both in terms of the number of stores that support it, and in the amount of popular software which can be found.
Desktops are the most widely used option for a home computer, and there’s a plethora of manufacturers to choose from. You should definitely do the research to find out who has a strong reputation.
Apple Computers
Unlike PCs which are made by a a few different makers, Apple computer is manufactured and sold by a single company – Apple inc. Therefore, Macs can be more expensive to purchase than PCs, since there isn’t such a large supply of different part producers. On the other hand, since Apple inc is more in control of its manufacturing process, you’ll find less issues with compatibility, and this suggests that Apple computers tend to be less likely to have computer hardware conflicts.
The operating system for Macs is called Mac OS (Mac Operating-system), which again, is created by Apple and only intended for use on Apple Macs.
Other motives Mac computer users give for why you need to purchase a Mac instead of a desktop computer:
- Mac applications are much more intuitive, faster to master and less complicated to use than its Windows counterparts
- A Mac requires less configuration. It “just works”
- Apple computers are less likely to get viruses (even though it is still advisable to obtain anti-virus software, just in case)
- Macs are better able to take care of multi-media without having to get professional hardware or software applications
Somewhere around 10% of home computers currently bought are Apple computers, but most Mac users are fans and say that they would never again consider purchasing a PC. Many Mac owners claim that although it’s a more expensive initial cost, the life-time cost of a Macintosh is less than a PC since they break far less often!
