Asus EEE PC 1215N Notebook Review

ASUS is the company who started this whole minilaptop fad where the idea is to have small laptops under 12 inches wide that are outfitted with fundamental specs but still capable of doing basic tasks including browsing the web, delivering and receiving emails, as well as operating office programs. They weigh less, stay powered longer, and they are much less pricey compared to their counterparts at 14 inches. Multitasking is frequently fairly restricted due to all round sluggishness, particularly when they are using later versions of Windows. The ASUS 1201N tried to make a difference through including quicker components but ended up suffering in the battery life. At present its successor which is the Asus EEE PC 1215N notebook hopes to make a significant difference through combining value, portability, along with overall performance.

Advantages

Contrary to various other netbook computers, the Asus EEE PC 1215N notebook features a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor in order that it may better deal with a bit more arduous tasks. Combined with 2 GB of RAM MEMORY, Windows 7 editions ought to work just fine as well as other third-party software. Similar to its predecessor, the 1215N features the NVIDIA ION GPU which enables you to play back 1080p content via HDMI without hiccups. Surprisingly it will do a good job playing even many of the 3D online games. The overall performance significantly exceeds other solutions for integrated graphics, even though you should use the lowest settings with the games you play. Integrated graphics are highlighted considering that this does not drain electricity, an advantage when you are not plugged in. The Intel GMA 3150 is the default GPU, a nice characteristic of the 1215N. When a demanding app or game is launched, the NVIDIA ION becomes active via the NVIDIA Optimus technology. As a result normal usage time with the 1215N is 5 hours.

They crammed in more pixel because of the display size. With a 1366 by 768 resolution, all applications should operate alright and there should be plenty of room to organize your workspace. At a fantastic 96% of the full size, the key pad enables touch typists to type with only a little adjustments. A considerable speed boost from compatible external hard disk drives while using the 3. 0 USB port it comes with besides the 2 typical USB ports.

Disadvantages

Other mini netbooks are a little bit lighter than the Asus EEE PC 1215N Notebook, although not by much. It weighs less than 3 and a half pounds and the 12-inch display screen still will mean less bulk for traveling. The usability of the touchpad leaves something to be desired. The buttons are a little too resistant and make a loud click. It is effective to use a computer mouse because of this.

In Conclusion

Without sacrificing efficiency for your needed apps, and perhaps the occasional World of warcraft, the Asus EEE PC 1215N notebook compares extremely favorably to the others, who though they can run for 8 – 10 hours without requiring charging, are generally less app-friendly. The 1215N is more practical when compared to a tablet computer, and the selling price is actually below $500.

Samsung N110 12PBK 10 Inch Black Notebook

Samsung N110 12PBK 10 Inch Black Notebook

It has met all my desires and expectations pertaining to this type of small notebook. I have found many who give poor critiques to notebooks depending on their lack of an optical drive, smaller keyboards/track pads, or even their weak overall performance with 3D video games. To those individuals I only say – do your homework and recognize what you are choosing before buying it. It is a netbook computer people, not a 15″ laptop that has been magically shrunk to suit inside a 10″ covering. Just like all things in your life, a lot of things had to be sacrificed so as to accomplish such a tiny notebook. Processing power along with also|along with] track pad/keyboard size needed to be decreased in order to fit everything into this kind of smaller bundle and get expanded battery run periods.

I use the netbook computer to give PowerPoint presentations. Despite the fact that the particular resolution of the actual netbook computer screen is 1024 x 600, the quality is noticeably better on external monitors and projectors. So far I was able to use the maximum quality capabilities of the projectors I have used. The presentations are just as sharp and clear using this netbook computer as when using high-powered costly laptop computers. With the actual long battery life, I don’t bother using a power cord and looking for the actual right adapter for the type of power plug the country uses. I can give PowerPoint presentations for 8 hours without connecting my netbook to external power.

The actual N110 has handled everything I’ve thrown at it, but I am not throwing heavy duty computionational tasks like simulations, video decoding or graphic intensive games, nor do I ever expect to on this machine. I am currently running it with the actual standard 1 gb memory, and although I ordered a memory upgrade at the same time as the actual N110, I haven’t seen a need for the actual extra memory, yet. On the actual negative side, if you’re planning on using this machine often outdoors in bright light, you will most certainly turn out to be disappointed using this machine. Otherwise, I believe laptop magazine got it perfect: it’s a near perfect netbook computer.
