I received a comment on one of my articles recently. Usually, comments are about the article content. Either someone agrees or disagrees with me. By leaving a comment they can let me know. Most comments I receive are from people telling me they found out what they needed to know to get their computers going at full speed again. This is very nice; after all, it’s what I’m here for!

However, the comment I wanted to talk about in this article was from a man who is having trouble getting his computer running at an acceptable level. Most article publishers will not forward email addresses comments come from, so I have no way to help this man except by writing another article and hoping he finds it. The following is the comment he sent to me:

First of all, you should know how to defragment disks in the Windows. You can click “Start” > “All Programs” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” to start the disk defragmenting program, in the dialog box, you can choose one or all the disks to defragment and then click “OK”. During defragmentation, you can click “View Report” to see the current defragmenting process. But, if you cannot find such disk defragmenting program in the accessories, it means that you do not install it before. So you can install it by clicking “Start” > “Control Panel” > “Add/Remove Programs” to accomplish that.

3. Graphic Displays – Almost every mobile phone has a graphic display, even if it just shows signal and battery strength. Most phones today have far more graphic power and are able to display words, pictures and animation. Such screens also allow for meaningful amounts of text to be displayed, supporting rapid serial presentation of context-appropriate information. You can use this type of displays for almost any sort of learning. Eventually these displays will render content that is today rendered on personal computers.

4. Downloadable programs – With mobile phones that have memories, and can accept and install downloaded programs an entire new learning space is opened up on the phone. Almost any sort of learning content and interaction technology can be delivered to the phone using this method.

5. Mobile Internet Browsers – Internet browsers are now built into an increasing number of phones, especially those that take advantage of 3G or enhanced data networks such as GPRS. Having a browser on the phone opens up all the learning resources available on the web, including Google, LMS applications, typical eLearning courseware and other tools/applications.

Without proper research its hard to arrive at the worth of the m-learning market in India, any projection is unfounded; and is also due to the improbability of being able to predict the rate of technological (read network) adoption and penetration. However, empirically, we are seeing an increasing interest in mLearning.

An external hard drive or secondary internal hard drive should be considered to avoid a potential disaster if your laptop's hard drive fails. If they are sufficiently sized, they can also be used to store your music and video files and free up some disk space on your primary drive.

A USB drive or a pen drive are nice external devices that allow you to easily transfer your files from your laptop to your desktop computer. They connect to the computer's USB port and allow you to easily move files between computers using your system's file utility software. Operators used to use a floppy disk for this purpose, but today's USB drives are easier to swap between computers and can handle much larger file sizes. They can also be used to secure sensitive data.

There is a definite appeal in gaming for learning using mobile phones. Currently, several companies are experimenting with game-based learning technology for mobiles. However, the feasibility of such an approach depends on the cost of development and deployment of such applications, which are quite high at this time. With increasingly capable hardware and connectivity available and dropping costs, it's only a matter of time before learning games on mobile become commonplace.

In the future, we will see mobile phones, computers and various other computing/media devices (iPods, Digital Cameras, PDAs, etc.) we use converge into a single personal mobile computing device. At such a time, the differentiation between eLearning and mLearning will cease to exist; all learning will be electronic and mobile

What do you think the future of the personal and business computer will be? Things have moved on at such a pace over the last decade and this is set to continue in the next few years. I have owned a personal computer for the last eleven years. We now have one main computer and two laptops in our household. My fourteen year old step-daughter spends a great deal of time on her laptop.

She completes her homework and sources information on the internet. She also enjoys communicating with her friends on sites like facebook, msn messenger and myspace.

I think that within the next ten years people will be making the majority of their phone calls via their computers, using a microphone or head phones, they will be watching television on their computers, they will be controlling the lights, heating and other household appliances through their p.c. Basically the computer will be an even more integral part of one’s life than it is today, I can not wait for it to happen.
