Ten Tips to Help You Get the Most Out of Your iPhone

October 27th, 2009

Whether you’re a noob or seasoned iPhone user, you may have yet to discover all the power user tips and tricks the iPhone can do.  Though seemingly subtle and insignificant, here are ten things that can help you get the most from your iPhone experience and make using it just a little bit easier.

1. Want to create a list of your most-used phone numbers?  No problem!  The iPhone favorites gives you easyaccess to your most-used numbers.  Simply select a contact and tap “Add to Favorites.”  If you want to change the order of the list, just tap Favorites, tap Edit and then drag the contact to a new place in the list.

2. Instead of scrolling all the way back up to the top of a long web page or email, just tap the status bar at the top and you’ll quickly be returned to the very top.

3. Fix the home screen to include your favorite and most-used applications through the iPod section.  Click “Go to iPod,” “More,” the finally “Edit.”  You can drag the icons around until the page is exactly what you want!

4. To make your battery last longer (what serial user doesn’t want to do that?), turn off accessories when not in use, such as the WiFi or Bluetooth – they can zap the battery even when you’re not using them.

5. In many apps that utilize lists (like the Mail app), you can easily and quickly delete items by swiping your finger across them (much like crossing off an item on a list).  This will prompt a delete button that allows you to confirm the delete.

6. Want to shout using all caps?  A surprisingly simple yet relatively unknown feature allows you to do just that by simply double-tapping the shift key.

7. Don’t forget that Apple has an app for nearly everything.  Whether you want to find a tasty Mexican restaurant near you or transcribe a voice message into text, there’s an app!  Click here to find the best iPhone apps, app reviews and much more.

8. When surfing with the Safari browser, did you know you don’t actually have to type “www” or “.com?”  When your search engine is set to Google, you simply just have to type the main domain.  For example, just type “apple” instead of www.apple.com.

9. To quickly restart your iPhone, simply press and hold the Home and the Sleep buttons simultaneously.  A light will flash and the screen will shut off then turn back on.

10. The guided tours on Apple’s iPhone How To section offers a ton of information to help you learn how to use all the basic features of the iPhone.
