The Pain of Losing My Mobile Phone
We never expect it to happen to us, but then it does. In my case this has happened twice. I am, of course, talking about losing my mobile phone.
The first time I lost my mobile was clearly due to too many drinks on a boys night out. Thinking back I was using my mobile phone on my way home and must have left it on the back seat of the taxi. I didn’t realise what had happened until the following day when I called the cab firm only to hear that they didn’t have my phone. It was suddenly painfully clear how much of my life was actually stored on my little mobile telephone.
I vowed that I would be far more careful in future and get myself some mobile phone insurance to cover the cost of replacement. But the expense was the last of my concerns as I’d lost a whole load of telephone numbers and contact details that were only stored on my phone and nowhere else.
Everybody does it. When we run into an old friend or make a new contact we immediately enter their contact details into our mobile phones and often don’t even think about transfering those details to an address book.
The second time I lost my mobile phone was on another night out but this time I wasn’t the worse for drink. I am convinced that my phone was stolen by an expert pick-pocket who managed to remove my telephone from the pocket of my jeans without me noticing. It’smore likely that I dropped it on the floor when getting some cash from my pocket at the bar. I told the club staff but my new phone never turned up.
Stupidly, I hadn’t taken out the mobile phone insurance policy that I’d intended to. But my experience the last time I’d lost my phone had led to my making note of most of the contact details on my phone.
Is there a moral to this tale? Maybe a small one. But I strongly suggest that you backup all of your telephone contact details and maybe get yourself some insurance to cover the cost of a replacement.
